Search engines are being used to aid in computational linguistics tasks since more than ten years ago. In the opposite direction, natural language processing techniques are being increasingly applied to search engines. The first part of this talk will review some of these cross-applications: from improving syntactic analyses and information extraction using IR results, to improvements in query expansion and ranking motivated by NLP techniques. The second part of the talk will describe recent work done on query similarity using very large corpora.
